POST HOMER: What's next for me.

Posted by DioShiba - 4 days ago

Hey everyone.

The first thing I'd like to get out of the way is that, for everyone who participated in The Great Homer Collab it's really no secret at this point that it's been an overwhelming success not just within less than the first 24 hours it's been out so I want to get it out of the way that this isn't just a success on my part, but for everyone involved in making the collab.

Truthfully, I want everyone who participated to feel that they've earned the recognition for it, not because I organized it but because more than 100 users had the courage to step up and take a part of something that I think truly highlights one of the best things about Newgrounds when many artists come together. I'd like to once again thank @Taytonium for the inspiration behind the Collab, @TomFulp for being willing to reschedule the collab deadline, and I'd also like to thank you, the artists.

Hell I think the amount of favorites and views that it has gained in one day speaks for itself:

As for me...

Where does Dioshiba plan on going from here?

The first thing that I would like to get out of the way is that I will not be organizing any more collabs for the forseeable future. Give it about a year or two before I organize another one.

This is in part because as I have had a couple of lessons as I was organizing this on where doing this on my own can be a bit difficult even if it's just for an art collab. TRUTHFULLY, I didn't expect the success to be this much for The Great Homer Collab to hit in some of the ways it did. There were a few things that I came to realize that I knew it would be but to see how it evolved from back in July into now I realize that there's only so much one organizer can do in the face of having to make sure everything goes smoothly.

This is also added on to the fact that, on the side I'm doing paid work too and between having to take care of those two things on top of doing a full time job well... it's left me little time to focus on a few other things that I'd like to do with some of my own personal artwork. And I'm not just talking about fan art as much as I am talking about original works I haven't shown because I don't feel they're at a point where I'm comfortable publicly showing them yet. It's a choice of my own doing but it was one that I was willing to make when I did start the collab.

So there's that insight I'd like to add. However, one of the most positive things to come out of this from a realistic standpoint is that I've gained experience in organizing a project and I think there's some merits that can go a long way with that.

So there's that. Once I've gained a bit more experience I might get back into doing another collab but for now, the time is nigh for me to move on to some of my own things and focus on what I gotta do for some of my own work. It's been a blast organizing TGHC and when the day comes, I think it'll be interesting to see what happens next once I've picked up a few new skills to and ideas to organize a project more efficiently. Until then, see you around!

What’s next Peter Griffin?

Too soon to give a definitive answer on what's next.

I've toyed around with the idea of doing The Great American Collab as a massive collab regarding the United States but I think for a project idea as ambitious as that I'd really have to push out the big guns and have a bigger focus on quality at that point and I don't think I have the necessary means to prove that I can organize such a collab... yet.

Congratulations on this massive hit! Have a Duff! c[-]

D’oh! That looked like a great collab, I was too late to make a Homer 😭

@AlexToolStudio @DioShiba Even if I am not from US a collab like this would intrigue me because I would explore less known cultural element of US but yeah take your time on a collab like this if you ever want to make it. Just know in case you want to embrace such ambitious project I would participate in such collab.

I feel like if I chose to go down that road I'd have to make it a project that lasts for a good while before it's officially released and see if there would be people that'd be interested in helping in organizing it.

And that's one part of the problem. Plus it would be interesting to include animation into the mix, however I need to get back into a deeper practice and prove myself as an animator that can do more than just a few pixel art gifs because truthfully, it's been awhile since I animated anything outside of my senior thesis film from art school back in 2019 and I don't think that best reflects what I can be capable of if I really put my mind into it with what I know now, and that's the other problem I would have to solve.

Absolutely loved your submission. Great to be on the same billing as you with the collab! So proud of everyone!
