I actually like the pacing here ngl.

Litterally was wondering why my name was in this then I saw the shitpost I made with Kojima

Wegra responds:

I loved that one

Since I was asked for an opinion.... I think the voice acting is pretty solid. Art style and animation is pretty good that said and there's some funny bits here and there.

Personally felt more like slice of life but the fishing gag at the end with the little bit of slapstick made up for it in a good way.

Okay so thankfully, I was able to get my up key working! That does help somewhat with my impression of the review upon playing a second time. So.... there is a lot that I like and some things that I felt needed some polish.

One of the biggest strengths going for this right now is that you have the Johnen Vazquez art style going for it which, I realize that may have not been the intent but that's the vibe I'm getting from it. I actually think can really suit the game play going on here! That's a huge plus in of itself and I think that there's a lot I can appreciate from the artist on this one!

Gameplay wise I feel that things could be smoothed out. I like the idea behind the game design where you're using the rain to either attack or jump, it does give a sense of timing that needs to be utilized. The game feels a little janky at times to control the character, but when you learn how to combine some of the attacks like using the double jump with 'W' to a dash using the 'down arrow' it does actually help you navigate a bit quicker than normally running. I do wish that there was some customizable controls in the case that one is using a PS5 controller which... I think this game was developed with a keyboard or Xbox controller in mind.

Sound design is good, though I feel there could have been more done to better suit the atmosphere of the level. But then again maybe I'm just nitpicking on that to a certain degree. I do like the theme of it overall.

There's a lot of promise here but the game does feel that it's calling for more polish. Would love to go back to this one and see if I can beat the first boss with what I've been able to do so far.

Kotico responds:

Yoo thx for playing! As the artist nah it's ok I always knew Jhonen Vasquez was a really big inspiration for me, I suppose in this project I went all it for the city-dark stylized vibes lolol

Its been a wild ride, hbd Tom.

Okay so after playing this for a bit, I do think that this is a game worthy of being on the portal. Physics wise, this is actually pretty solid and I like the fact that you're going for NES level difficulty. Yes, there are difficult sections but for the most part, they aren't totally unfair.

The one part I'm struggling to get past is the section inside the building were I have to wall jump on a moving platform to get to a heart. While that is an interesting challenge that could reward the player I feel like something like that should be optional for those who are willing to take on that challenge as opposed to being forced to do it to move on. Otherwise it kind of feels unfair for those who haven't fully mastered the wall jumping mechanic at that point.

BUT OVERALL, I like the direction this game is going. The pixel art is a plus, but it would be nice if it had a true 8-bit aesthetic given the kind of graphics you're working with.

WaterSilverC responds:

Hm, that seems to be a problem area. It was supposed to be the wallslide/jump training but at this point I've had a bunch of people tell me they got stuck there...

Glad to see an 8-bit appreciator here! I was actually debating making it pixel perfect, but it was too much trouble to keep it feeling smooth and I chose smoothness in the end.

Appreciate the review!

Honestly, this has to be the smoothest lo-fi beat I've heard in awhile that does something unique. Kudos

So I'm gonna be honest as I have said to you personally, there are both posktives and negatives to your comic.

The positive things that are your strengths right now is that you have a good sense pf layout. Its easy for me to know what prder panels I'm supposed to be reading and this helps with the sense of flow and timing of the comic. The wiritng and dialogue actually does flow in some parts of the story and it does keep me engaged.

However, there are parts where I thought there was too much exposition. What would help drive home the impact is not always going to be the characters explaining what's happening in the scene, we can gather what's going on in the panels visually when we see a demon riding another demon like a horse, I would have loved to see a more "WTF" type of reaction from your characters and how they are going to handle that sense of danger. That's one example where that almost ran the risk of taking me out of my suspension of disbelief.

Lastly, many of the issues that were discissed before with your art style are still present. While I do think you have the potential to evolve your art style its not going to mean much if you don't look back on previous critiques. In some panels, it can be forgiven. In others, not so much since there are parts of the anatomy that still feel jank.

So this is the best feedback I can give you while being fair to where your strengths are to where your weaknesses need work. I'll stress this again, its commendable that you have finished a comic and are committed to finishing your work, but there are things left to be desired that could be delivered through the art of subtlty.

PizzaPasta100 responds:

Thank you so much for leaving a very detailed review on this comic! That means a lot to me!

I'm glad that the layout is good in a lot of areas! I don't want my readers to get confused as to what's going on.

To explain the exposition issue, the reason why I went with having a lot of exposition in the first place was that I was afraid that readers wouldn't understand what was going on, but in hindsight, I probably should've had less of that.

With my art style, I started working on this comic back in early July and have improved since then such as getting a drawing tablet, but I kind of had to keep drawing the same because if I were to change it then I would've had to either start from scratch which I wouldn't want to do because I was focused on getting it done or have my comic switch art styles mid-comic which would be bad too as that would look strange.

Thank you so much for saying that finishing my comic is commendable and shows that I'm committed to my comic! I was mostly focused on getting it done like what others recommended in the past while trying my best which seems to me that I've succeeded with!

I hope that Chapter 2 of my comic is better! :D

Brilliant

That's some wild shit yo.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu! :D
